Over to you...... “At this time of year my skin gets really dry and flaky can diet influence this?” From CR, Surrey
Chilly Autumn days combined with our centrally heated homes and offices plays havoc with skin hydration nevertheless what you eat and drink can make a big difference. Make sure you include some healthy fats in your diet because these lock water into the cells. Choose pumpkin, hemp, sunflower and flaxseeds as well as nuts, olives and avocado.
Much of the skin is composed of protein so include good quality sources in every meal and snack such as poultry, eggs, fish as well as nuts and seeds. Maintaining adequate hydration is of utmost importance aim to drink 6-8 glasses of plain filtered water, herbal teas or juices daily. Juices have the added benefit of supplying skin-friendly nutrients such as vitamins A and C. Don’t forget to go easy on the alcohol and caffeine which act as diuretics and instead make herbal tea or low caffeine choices your preferred cuppa – some of our favourites include Yogi’s Rooibosch or QI’s white tea with blackcurrant.
