Bonfire Night

If you're planning a get together this bonfire night then include one or two of our tasty recipes which are sure to keep out the chills and even achieve some "oohs" and "ahhs" of their own!

Standing outside on a cold November night means you need something warm and filling to sustain you and these jacket potatoes with their warm spicy filling and crispy coats are just the thing.

Curried Jackets
- Heat the oven to 220C and rub a little oil into washed potatoes, bake on the top shelf of the oven for 20 minutes and then reduce the heat to 190C and bake for 45-60 minutes until the skin is crisp and the centre soft and fluffy. Remove from the oven and keep warm. While the potatoes are cooking prepare the curry filling, chop 1 onion and crush 1 garlic clove, gently sauté together until soft, add either lean beef mince or diced chicken pieces and brown, add one diced red pepper and then your chosen curry sauce, we used Real Organics Jalfrezi cooking sauce. Cut large crosses in the jacket potatoes and serve topped with the curry sauce.

This warm drink is packed with vitamin C and lovely warming spices.

Mulled Juice Cup
- Simmer 1 litre of Fruit Hit Apple juice  with strips of orange peel, 1 cinnamon stick, some grated nutmeg and 3 star anise for about 5 minutes or until the flavours have infused. Serve in heat proof glasses or cups with a slice of orange.

Dishes you can prepare in advance are always useful and these delicious slices with warming ginger are ideal; serve at room temperature.

Chocolate & Ginger Slices
- Lightly grease an 18cm sandwich tin. Melt 100g unsalted butter and 100g Plamil Organic dark chocolate, 2 tbsp Agave Nectar in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Remove from the heat and stir in 225g of crushed Nairn's sweet ginger oat biscuits and 60g chopped Munchy Seeds Vanilla Mix. Press the mix into the tin. Melt 85g Plamil Organic dark chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water and then spoon the melted chocolate over the top of the pressed mix. Sprinkle over 30g of Munchy seeds Vanilla Mix and chill for 1 hour before slicing.

Baked Apples (Serves 4) - wash and core 4 apples. In a bowl combine the filling of 40-50g Nakd Amazin Orange Raisins and 30g Munchy Seeds Vanilla Mix. Place each apple in a baking tin and stuff the centres with the filling, dot each with a little butter. Pour boiling water into the base of the baking tin and bake in a medium oven for about 30 minutes or until soft but not mushy. Serve with this tasty sweet sauce - blend together 4 tbsp tahini, 6-7 tbsp water with 3 tbsp Higher Nature Zylosweet - add a little more water to achieve the required pouring consistency.

After all the fun of the fireworks what could be better than a comforting winter warmer. Our version of an old favourite is made with a high cocoa chocolate, a low GL natural sweetener combined with warm milk or soya milk. This drink will warm you up after the night's festivities yet won't disrupt your night's sleep because it supplies slow releasing sugars and is a rich source of tryptophan.

Hot Chocolate Warmer
- Combine 85g of Divine chocolate broken into pieces with 1 tablespoon of Higher Nature Zylosweet, 1 vanilla pod (split lengthways) and 300ml of milk or soya milk in a saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until the chocolate is melted. Carefully bring the thick liquid to the boil then using a balloon whisk froth the liquid until smooth and aerated. Remove the vanilla pod and pour into warmed mugs, top with whipped cream and sprinkle with some freshly grated chocolate or a pinch of cinnamon.
