This year February 14th falls on a Saturday which is good news for all those romantics amongst us! Instead of spending out on an expensive restaurant why not cook your loved one a romantic meal using some delicious (and healthy) ingredients...
Start with some tasty dips including hummus, tahini and guacamole and serve with asparagus tips, baby sweet corn, cauliflower florets, carrot, celery and cucumber batons.
For the main course select the food most associated with love and passion - oysters. These are rich in zinc an essential nutrient for male fertility, they supply similar amounts of iron to red meat and the same protein levels as fish but are of course low in fat. If you or your partner are cautious of eating oysters then try this variant of Oysters Kilpatrick - top the oysters with a little low fat crème fraiche mixed with Worcestershire sauce, then sprinkle on a crispy coating of crushed Nairns Oat Bakes mixed with some grated parmesan and finely sliced parma ham. Place under a low – medium grill for 2-4 minutes. Serve with a large mixed salad.
Chocolate has long been associated with romance and passion but instead of gifting a box of sugary milk chocolates use 70% cocoa chocolate in a delicious dessert. For example melt chocolate and dip fresh strawberries (great with a glass of bubbly!) or make a light chocolate mousse and serve with a tasty cookie such as Against the Grain Almond Cookies.
Avoid the stimulatory effects of caffeine and finish the meal with a relaxing infusion of rose, chamomile and lavender all superbly blended by Pukka Herbs and aptly named “Love Tea”.
