Dedicated followers of faddy diets like cabbage soup, food combining
and blood type could be forgiven for thinking that there's no consensus
on what to eat to keep you healthy and happy. With most dieters failing
to hit their target weight, the multi million pound weight loss
industry needs ever new and inventive ways to encourage the legions of
veteran dieters to part with their cash. Promises of diets that are
sure to work and need minimum effort are music to the ears of yo-yo
dieters, and so another fad is born.
Take into account the reported dangers of food additives and preservatives or the perceived benefits of organic and whole foods, it is no wonder that many search around for healthy food lists and guides.
The smoke and mirrors approach of the diet industry has fuelled
staggering profits. More people than ever are dieting but obesity rates
are soaring.
For decades though, Nutritionists and Doctors across the country
have agreed on a diet that promotes sound (but unglamorous!) eating
habits. It's not rocket science:
Eat a low 'GL' diet which includes plenty of fruit, vegetables and wholegrains and cuts down on refined carbohydrates;
Avoid ‘bad' saturated fats and ensure you eat essential fats like omega 3, 6 & 9;
Cut down your intake of processed food especially refined sugar;
Lower your intake of sodium.
Healthy eating is not a quick fix. It's a long term change in your
eating habits promoting greater health and wellbeing, and ultimately a
leaner you.
We are now clearer than ever that food and nutrition can also affect
your emotional and mental health. You can eat healthily for a
vitalised, happier you and we are here to make it as easy as possible.
